Nancy Henrichsen asked:

As an avid viewer each week of the wildly popular reality series, “Dancing With The Stars”, no one can overlook the fact that the Professional Dancers outdance their amateur celebrity partners. The fact is that the professional dancers, Cheryl Burke, Tony Dovolani, Julianne Hough, Derek Hough, Mark Ballas, et al, dance professionally because they have accomplished near perfection in the ballroom arena. One doesn’t have to be a professional dancer to realize that they are stunning in their execution of difficult patterns and moves. When professionals dance together as partners, some partnerships are equal where both dancer’s skills are at the same level. Conversely, other partnerships exist where one of the dancer’s skill level exceeds the other which will create a desire from the lesser partner to dance up to meet the better partner’s level.

On “Dancing With The Stars”, the dynamics of the partnership are founded on inequality, thus creating an interesting and TV- worthy competition. Each professional dancer is partnered with an amateur whose dancing abilities vary. It is then up to each professional to bring out the inner dancer in their amateur celebrity partner. What soon becomes obvious as the show progresses is that some of the amateur partners do not possess the ability to dance at a level even remotely resembling what the professionals are capable of. It is the role of the professional partner to make the amateur look as good, strong, cool, connected, polished, etc. as they possibly can.

The goal is to outperform the other couples. This can be accomplished by show-casing the amateur/professional in magnificent costumes, or with a compilation of steps highlighting the amateur’s strengths, or through diversion tactics with the professional dancer taking the heavier load of the actual dancing performed in the routine. Many of the professionals use all three of these tactics. And some professionals receive a bit of heat from fans and critics when they do. Edyta Sliwinska’s glamorous but skimpy costumes are the source of much conversation about the show; she has a perfect dancer’s body, and her costumes accentuate her superb dancing. Would anyone want to watch if she were underachieving or not trying to give her partner the best chance at staying around another week? Julianne Hough always looks adorable, so why, according to recent news postings, did her black lace rumba costume have just “too much lace”?

Using all the tools available, it is the responsibility of the professional dancer to make their amateur partner look GOOD, whatever it takes, excluding an occasional wardrobe malfunction. How about a round of applause for both the amateurs and the professionals for the major weekly accomplishment of facing three hard-core judges and the American public? If the couple makes it another week, it probably means the professional did his/her job.

Caffeinated Content – Members-Only Content for WordPress

Groshan Fabiola asked:

Joey Fatone has honed most of his talents, and has become coordinated in various dancing styles. As a boy band member during his NSYNC days, he was required to learn hip-hop and pop-influenced dance moves. While on Broadway’s Rent and Little Shop of Horrors, he had to learn blocking, which is part of musical theater. As for his stint on Dancing with the Stars, he had to immerse himself in ballroom and Latin dancing. For his 31st birthday however, he was given the chance to venture into something outrageously new.

The former contestant of Dancing with the Stars spent his 31st birthday on the “Zero-G” flight out of Kennedy Space Center . The travel site Jaunted.com explained that the flight is technically “a trip in a specially adapted plane, during which the pilot dives in such a way that the forces of gravity are briefly cancelled out. It means you can float, like an astronaut in space, for around 30 seconds at a time.”

Aside from being a training tool for astronauts, the flight has also become a destination for space travel enthusiasts or thrill seekers who have enough cash to spend. Famous physicist Stephen Hawking, who has been physically disabled by Lou Gehrig’s Disease (ALS), has also experienced the Zero-G flight, which is also called the “vomit comet” due to the physical reaction some have during the experience.

It would probably take years until the space tourism allows just about anyone to head out to space to literally dance with the stars but it seems that Joey Fatone was bitten by the same space travel bug that bit his fellow NSYNC band member, Joey Fatone.

For more resources about Dancing with the Stars or for the full story of Dancing with the Stars: Joey Fatone in “Space” please review http://www.buddytv.com

Website content

maria.walker asked:

Strictly Come Dancing is a popular British television show that has featured several celebrities that dance with their professional dance partners in order to compete in both the Ballroom and the Latin dances. The story behind the title of this show is the suggestion that it’s the continuation of the popular long-running series titled ‘Come Dancing” alongside the allusion to the movie titled Strictly Ballroom. The aforementioned show had made its debut on the BBC One channel in the year 2004. Its fifth series had come to an end in the month of December last year that is the year 2007.

There had been four stand-alone Christmas Specials that had taken place in the year 2004, 2005, 2006 and last but not the least in the year 2007. The fourth Series had later been shown as part of BBC’s line-up that had been featured on the then trial High Definition channel named “BBC HD”. As far as the format of the show is concerned it has been extracted from the format of shows fro the other countries (like for instance “Dancing with the Stars”).

The grand finale of the fifth series tat had been held in the month of December in the year 2007 had been a source of great attraction for the audience. Almost 12 million viewers had been marked that made it one of the most watched shows to be telecasted on TV in that particular year. The format had also been inspired from a modern-dance themed spin-off that had been titled “Strictly Dance Fever”.

Amongst the professional dancers that are almost the same in every year, there are only four of them who have been present in almost all the series. These dancers are Brendan Cole, Anton Du Beke, Erin Boag and last but not the least Camilla Dallerup.

The show has also paired a number of celebrities with some of the finest most professional ballroom dancers who compete against one other week after week in order to impress an entire panel of the judges and also the general audience with the hope of surviving elimination. It is through the results of the telephone polls that the viewers vote for their choice of the contestants that they want to stay. Say for instance there are a total of four contestants who are left, the one who is the judges’ favorite goes on to receive four points, the second most favorite receives three points, and so on and then the results of the viewers’ rankings are also going to be added to the points they have received from the judges.

The profits that are made from the telephone lines had been donated to the Sport Relief in the first series whereas after that they have been donated to the “Children in Need” from the second to the fifth series.

More information about Strictly Come Dancing Tickets

Kansieo.com

Libbles asked:

Dancing themed reality shows are all the rage right now, due in part to the success of “Dancing with the Stars.” ABC’s award winning “Dancing with the Stars” is based on the British reality show “Strictly Come Dancing.” The first season debuted the summer of 2005. It featured six professional ballroom dancers paired up with six celebrities. The premiere drew in 13 million viewers, which was the biggest summer debut of any American reality show. The show continued to gain viewers and reached #1 in the ratings, where it stayed until the end of the season. Usually the celebrities that are a bit more athletic in real life are able to last longer in the competition, as they are required to perform demanding dances such as the foxtrot, the quickstep, the jive, and the paso doble. Fans also love to tune in to hear the critiques of judges Len Goodman, Carrie Ann Inaba, and Bruno Tonioli.

In fact, so popular were Carrie Ann and Bruno that they were given their own reality show, “Dance War: Bruno vs. Carrie Ann.” The show was a bit like “American Idol” but in addition to singing, the contestants had to be able to dance too! Carrie Ann and Bruno held auditions all around the country to find the most talented performers. From those auditions, Carrie Ann and Bruno both picked a team of seven performers and the battle began. Each week, the teams had to compete against each other by performing singing and dancing routines, with the home audience voting for their favorites. The team with the least amount of votes would send a member home. Team Bruno won the season and a recording contract with Hollywood Records. Two of the team’s singles, “Fallin’ in Love” and “Come With It” were released for purchase on iTunes.

Another dancing reality show that scored big with the fans was “So You Think You Can Dance.” “So You Think You Can Dance” premiered on Fox in July 2005. The show was created by “American Idol” creators Simon Fuller and Nigel Lythgoe and the format is similar except they search for the best amateur dancers. Nigel also serves as a judge on the show as does ballroom champion Mary Murphy. The third judge of the show rotates between such highly acclaimed dance professionals as Debbie Allen, Tyce Diorio, Mia Michaels, Dan Karaty, Napoleon and Tabitha D’Umo, and Mandy Moore. The top 20 dancers are put through physically and emotionally taxing training as they must learn all types of dance, including the waltz, hip hop, contemporary, and salsa. The winner of the show receives a new car, a cash prize, and a role as a dancer in a major show.

One of the newest dancing reality shows is MTV’s “Legally Blonde The Musical: The Search for the Next Elle Woods.” This show offers ten hopefuls the chance of a lifetime – to perform as Elle Woods on Broadway in “Legally Blonde The Musical.” The girls must be able to act, sing, and dance as well as embody the true spirit of the Elle Woods character. They are judged by actor Paul Canaan (who performs in “Legally Blonde The Musical” on Broadway), Heather Hach (who wrote the Broadway version of Legally Blonde), and choreographer Jerry Mitchell (who also directs the show), and casting director Bernard Telsey. By the end of the season, one lucky girl will become the leading lady of a popular musical on Broadway.

The dancing reality shows are fun to watch and may even peak viewers interest enough that they learn to dance themselves. However, there are also benefits for the dancers also. For the celebrity performers, a dancing reality show can bring about a renewed interest in their career and also help them lose weight. For the amateur dancers, even just making it to the top 10 or top 20 of a show like “So You Think You Can Dance” can open up many doors for them to further their dance career.

ballroom dancing

Dr Michael Norwood asked:

are certain moments that occur in life that are so exquisite, they leave you breathless.

The challenge is, if you blink, you might miss them.

There was just such a moment during the dramatic rematch of last summer’s hit show, Dancing with the Stars.

Whether or not you saw the show, see if you sense the profundity contained within the moment about to be described:

John O’Hurley, popular actor from the television comedy Seinfeld, was squared off against Kelly Monaco, **** star of The Young and The Restless.

The series had started with six well-known stars, each teamed with a professional dancer with whom they had to learn difficult ballroom dance routines. Each week, base upon their televised performance, one team was eliminated.

This was determined by which team received the lowest number of votes from three experienced judges whose votes counted 50%, and millions of call-in viewers whose votes counted for the other 50%.

All along, John O’Hurley and his professional dance partner, Charlotte Jorgensen, had been the judges and America’s favorite to win, scoring the highest by a landslide nearly every show.

But in the breath-taking final show of the competition, after receiving three perfect 10s from the judges for her final sizzling performance with partner and dance professional Alec Mazo, Kelly Monaco snatched the certain victory away from O’Hurley .

That show in itself was extraordinary. Monaco had almost been eliminated in the first two shows of the summer series, her dancing then described by one of the judges as “a disaster.”

But with a spunk and tenacity that made her win the hearts of the judges and millions of the show’s fans, week by week, her dancing improved, until she and Mazo overcame the elegance that had all along been the trademark of John O’Hurley and his partner.

At the start of the rematch, O’Hurley expressed his great disappointment in losing the finale and his extreme desire to win back that which he felt had been stolen from him.

Monaco, always spunky, expressed in no uncertain terms her desire to retain her trophy.

In the rematch, Monaco and O’Hurley each had three dances with their professional partners to try to garner America’s votes, which would determine the winner. (The judges had no vote in the rematch).

Though both couples danced admirably considering that just a few months earlier they were total novices to ballroom dancing, neither couple in my opinion danced with the soul and the fire that made the original competition so electric.

Watching, I was, in fact, slightly disappointed.

But then, preceding the second round of dance, something so extraordinary occurred, something so ethereal, I find myself a very long time after the show’s airing finally sitting down and attempting to capture the unforgettable moment on paper.

It came during an exhibition performance featuring champion ballroom dancer, Jonathan Roberts. He had been paired during the original competition with one of the stars, but was eliminated with her during the third round of the summer series. Now he was dancing with his wife and professional partner, Anna Trebunskaya.

And thus the moment begins.

It starts with the haunting notes of live singer Brian McKnight singing “Fields of Gold.”

And then, two dancers seem to simply materialize from off stage.

There is something immediately captivating.

They are whirling.

Their motion is effortless.

Something indefinable transcends the great hullabaloo of the tremendously publicized television show.

How do you describe magic?

How do you describe a perfectly still pond the moment a single drop of water – a tear – falls upon its surface?

How do you capture the perfect unison of two bodies dancing on sound waves rather than a floor?

How do you put into words two people – a man and a woman – a husband and a wife – whose deepest union is suddenly given form?

The show’s host, Tom Bergeron, is visibly moved by the performance. Normally the funny-man of “America’s Funniest Home Videos,” he stumbles over his words when greeting the couple at the end of the dance.

And the moment is passed.

It’s back to the competition.

The show is not about the two spirits who for a moment left millions breathless; it’s a competition between two stars, Kelly Monaco and John O’Hurley.

John O’Hurley wins the rematch.

He is vindicated

By the end of the show, you most likely have forgotten the transcendent ninety seconds you witnessed earlier.

They could have been imaginary.

It was just a sideshow, after all.

But the moment hasn’t let me go.

Having recorded the show, I replayed that exquisite minute and a half over and over.

And not wanting to lose the ephemeral beauty of what I saw – what I’m still feeling – I’m writing these words.

* How many such extraordinary moments pass in your life, my friend?

* Moments that you never think about a second time simply because you’re so busy getting onto the next moment?

It happens to me all the time.

And, like a dream, if I don’t write something down immediately after to remind myself, I never think of it again.

And what is it you and I are running after if not that which may already be passing right before our very eyes?

* A child’s delight.

* A look of love.

* A hilarious misstep.

Next time a moment like the one described in this article passes, stop what you’re doing. Become silent. Record it. Whisper your gratitude.

You needn’t earn a million dollars.

You needn’t run following the next latest and greatest fad or fashion.

You needn’t spend a dime.

Just stop.

Be present with the moment.

Feel the spirit.

Feel the oneness.

It’s right there.

It is . . . The “Real” Dance with the Stars.

ballroom dancing

maria.walker asked:

Caffeinated Content
